My Approach

I'm Jack, a BACP accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor. I work online or by telephone and can offer support short-term or long-term. I will be led by you and meet you where you're at. Together, we can create a safe and supportive space for us to explore what is going on for you and for you to be heard and understood.

Starting counselling/therapy can be a daunting prospect, but I believe you have already started the journey by looking here. It's important for you to find the right person to be your counsellor/therapist - which is why I offer a free 30-minute session for us meet without any expectation for commitment. Before deciding whether to book an introductory session, here is a little overview about me and my approach:

I draw on the humanistic approach and aim to focus on understanding your unique perspective and experiences. We can decide together on what you’re working on; but typically, we may touch on finding your strengths, exploring self-development, and ways you can grow and feel better about yourself and your situation.

Professional Background

I am a counsellor currently working within the NHS, where I hold dual roles in both a NHS Talking Therapies Service and a Staff Psychological Support Service. In these positions, I provide therapeutic support to individuals struggling with mental health challenges, as well as offering psychological support for NHS staff.

Before my current roles, I worked as a bereavement counsellor in a hospice, where I provided palliative emotional support and bereavement counselling to individuals and families navigating end-of-life. This experience deepened my understanding of grief, loss, and the profound emotional needs of patients and their loved ones during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

I also spent several years working with a mental health charity, offering specialised counselling for the LGBTQIA+ community. During this time, I developed expertise in providing affirming, empathetic care to individuals dealing with the unique challenges related to identity, coming out, discrimination, and mental health issues within the LGBTQIA+ population.

Prior to transitioning into counselling, I worked in the charity sector for over 10 years for a leading young people's mental health charity.

My Specialisms are working with:

  • People struggling with life changes, transitions, identity, and decision making.
  • Sexuality and Gender Identity and People from the LGBTQIA+ Community.
  • Parents/Carers of young people with mental health problems.
  • Working with professionals and work-based stress (including Health Care Professionals such as NHS Workers, Key Workers and people who work within the charity sector).
  • People who have experienced loss, grief, or a bereavement.
  • People who have a chronic or terminal illness.

Areas of Interest:

Anxiety, depression, stress, problems at work, loss/grief/bereavement, life changes, decision making, LGBTQIA+.

Above is a summary of the areas I work with, however I believe our connection is the most important thing. If you contact me we can discuss sessions and we can decide together whether we can work together in a free 30 minute intro session (details below).

Cost & Fees

£50 per 50-minute session

  • First 30-minute introductory session is free and will take place via Zoom or over the phone.
  • Online and phone sessions are charged at the same rate.
